Nearshore Cobia Hunting
|
The wind finally laided down enough to allow me to get my 18 foot Action Craft flats boat out in the ocean to hunt for Cobia that are currently migrating along our coast, north to their summer homes.
We searched for a long time without any signs of our prey, when suddenly, up ahead, a huge manta ray appeared on the surface. A few well placed jigs out to the side of the ray and "Fish On!" While we had opportunities to throw at several other rays throughout the day, it would prove to be the only fish of the day.
The cobia are still out quite a bit and not free swiming much yet. The next couple of weeks should bring warmer water and the Cobia closer to shore. When the conditions are right this is an exciting time!
